Five refrigeration packages for a leading global EPCM contractor.

Technofrigo by Clauger (formerly GEA Refrigeration Italy S.p.A.) was selected by a leading global EPCM contractor to deliver refrigeration systems for two major oil and gas projects in Asia. Our Process, Gas, and Energy (PGE) team engineered five complete refrigeration packages — three different designs — to cool compressor motors' adjustable-speed drivers (ASDs) across multiple process trains.

The client

A global EPCM contractor with deep expertise in the hydrocarbons industry required a reliable partner to deliver refrigeration systems for their Future Growth Project. The client needed a supplier capable of meeting demanding technical requirements while ensuring safe access, ease of installation and high performance.

The role of industrial chillers

Industrial chillers provide controlled cooling for products, machinery and heat-generating processes throughout oil and gas facilities. In this application, chiller systems cool the glycol-water circuit, which in turn cools the compressor motors' adjustable-speed drivers — critical components ensuring reliable compression operations.

Our solution

Five packages, three custom designs.

We engineered five complete refrigeration packages comprising three different designs, each optimised for its specific application and operational requirements.

3GP ASD chiller package

Designed to cool wet-gas sour compressor adjustable-speed drivers.

  • Chills glycol-water coolant to 40 °C or lower
  • Supports four compressor ASDs: one 3GP first-stage and three trains of 3GP second-stage
  • Operates at 100% capacity with duty and standby chiller package compressors
  • Integrated lube oil coolers for complete thermal management
  • One ASD chilling system train per package

3GI ASD cooling-water chiller package

Engineered for injection compressor ASD cooling.

  • Produces low-temperature glycol-water coolant for 3GI injection compressor ASDs
  • Two ASD chilling system trains for operational redundancy
  • Normal operation: one chiller package supplies two compressors
  • Design flexibility: each train can accommodate total glycol-water flow to cool four ASD trains
  • Continuous cooling even during maintenance or system reconfiguration

PBF ASD chiller package

Tailored for PBF compressor ASD thermal management.

  • Chills glycol-water coolant to 40 °C or lower for PBF compressor ASDs
  • Two ASD chilling system trains with operational flexibility
  • Normal operation: one chiller package supplies two compressors
  • Design capacity: each train can handle total glycol-water flow for four ASD trains
